The Philadelphia Eagles might be defending Super Bowl champions, but the team's offseason isn't one enjoying this accomplishment. It is clear the team wants to stay on top and is doing everything possible to retain key pieces and bring in reinforcements.

With this in mind, having stability behind the quarterback is important but impossible. With Jalen Hurts among the league's elite, there is no replacing what he brings to the Philly offense. This led the Eagles to trade Kenny Pickett in favor of keeping the cheaper Tanner McKee, the latter of whom looked just as capable as the main backup while making much less.

The Eagles weren't done at the position, drafting Kyle McCord to compete for the third quarterback role. Unfortunately, this adds up to veteran quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson having nowhere to go.

The Eagles Will Cut Dorian Thompson-Robinson

Philly isn't moving off McKee as the team's primary backup based on the tape from last season. This leaves the final roster spot at the position as a competition between Thompson-Robinson and McCord. It is hard to believe there is any scenario where the Eagles are going to keep a failing veteran over a player the franchise just spent a draft pick to add.

With this in mind, Thompson-Robinson is on borrowed time as a member of Philly's roster. It was simply a piece the Eagles needed to take to move off Kenny Pickett and give themselves a chance to reset the quarterback room behind Hurts. McCord is a far more interesting option that you have a chance to develop into a viable backup.

Thompson-Robinson is already a known option who is a low-end backup or a great third option. Having him on the roster made sense if not for the fact you spent another draft pick on the position. McCord is the more interesting fit and will be given the third role. This leaves the veteran quarterback as an obvious cut with little path to prevent how things will play out in Philly.

DTR's only chance to turn the tides is with a standout camp. Even then, however, he may still be auditioning for other teams, rather than Philly.
