The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for another postseason run, but moves around the league are already being made. A bunch of coaches have been fired and it continued on Thursday, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Miami Dolphins were letting go of head coach Mike McDaniel.

While he may be an option for other HC openings, McDaniel is immediately the most intriguing offensive coordinator option on the market and would be a dream come true for the Eagles.

The offense has been a hot topic for this team in 2025, which makes the idea of potentially swapping Kevin Patullo for McDaniel an exciting (and now feasible) one that'd be a win-win for both sides.

Kevin Patullo’s Seat Got Warmer with Mike McDaniel’s Firing

When Kellen Moore left town to become the Saints head coach, Patullo was elevated to offensive coordinator but things haven't gone smoothly. A.J. Brown made it known he was upset and annoyed with his usage, calling out the entire offense on several occasions. Jalen Hurts received a lot of criticism from fans and Saquon Barkley's production decreased.

There were times when the offense looked stale and lacked the creativity they had in the past. There are multiple things that have effected the dip in production for this team but a lot of falls on Patullo and his playcalls.

Obviously the biggest drop off has come with the ground game, but there's clearly meat being left on the bone with this unit. And that's where McDaniels could step in and change the game for the Birds. With a stacked offense and feisty defense, the Eagles are stacked up to be competitive once again in 2026.

This would be an ideal landing spot for McDaniels to take a step back, go to a team that can put up a ton of points, and potentially reenter the head coaching pool with better options on the table in 2027.

McDaniels went 35-33 during his tenure with the Dolphins, which included two playoff seasons. Despite being limited at quarterback with Tua Tagovailoa, McDaniels was able to produce dominant and explosive offenses.

During the 2022 and 2023 seasons when he had a healthy Tagovailoa, with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De'Von Achane, Miami finished top six in total offense and top 11 in scoring offense.

Even when Hill went down with a season-ending injury, McDaniels changed from an aerial attack to more of a ground and pound approach. In 2025, the Dolphins ranked 13th in rushing offense (120.2), behind Achane's 1,350 rushing yards.

McDaniels is a bright offensive mind and would definitely be an upgrade over Patullo. It would be a landing spot that works for both sides, and if Philadelphia is willing to make him one of the highest-paid offensive coordinators in the league, they could sway him to come over.

The Eagles have everything you want for a dynamic offense and with McDaniels playcalling ability, it would be match made in heaven. Although they aren't focused on this right now with the playoffs starting, it should be something they think about as soon as the postseason is over.
