A.J. Brown has consistently been a talking point around the Philadelphia Eagles over the last couple of months, and it hasn't slowed down. With his future with the team still very much in the air, the Eagles could use the NFL draft as an outlet to find a potential replacement for Brown.
ESPN's Matt Miller and Jordan Reid revealed an article discussing the intel they are hearing around the NFL ahead of the draft. In that piece, Reid expressed that the Eagles could look to make a move and trade up for a receiver.
"Circle the Eagles as a team that could get aggressive in trading up for a receiver. Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State) is a player to watch, as he could still be on the board in the Nos. 17-20 range. GM Howie Roseman is notorious for drafting replacements for veterans a year in advance."Jordan Reid, ESPN
The fact that rumors coming out from Philly are about the WR position is telling. It can't be overlooked that Reid stated Roseman likes to look for a replacement a year before, signaling that Brown's time in the City of Brotherly Love is likely coming to an end.
Eagles Latest Draft Rumors Add Fuel to Potential A.J. Brown Split
There's a belief that the Eagles would wait until later in the offseason for a trade. Philadelphia would get hit with a massive $43.5 million dead cap hit with a pre-June 1 trade, according to Spotrac, but that number drops to $16.3 million after that date, making it way easier to stomach.
The New England Patriots seem like the eventual landing spot, and with an exit looking likely, the Eagles may not be wasting time finding another receiver. Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson has caught the attention of Philly, and the only reason he's expected to fall down draft boards is due to injury concerns.
During his collegiate career, he's dealt with a torn ACL, MCL, PCL, fractured collarbone, and hamstring injuries.
Throughout the draft process, Tyson didn't complete on-field workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine and didn't participate in Arizona State's Pro Day due to his hamstring injury. Teams have some questions about his long-term health, but when available, he has the skillset to be an outstanding receiver.
Tyson will hold a workout for teams on April 17, giving teams a last-second look at him before the draft. While there are some concerns about his health, it appears the Eagles aren't too worried. In 33 college games, he had 158 catches for 2,282 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns.
The Athletic's Dane Brugler released his draft guide, where he wrote:
"Tyson’s injury history is concerning, but on the field, he is a sleek, twitched-up athlete who can create his own separation and win outside his frame at the catch point. He projects as an NFL starter (inside or outside), with a skill set that reminds me of Stefon Diggs."Dane Brugler, The Athletic
While there are some questions about his health, he certainly has the traits to be an impact player in the NFL, and if he's on the board between picks 17-20, the Eagles could take their chance on him and trade up.
Brown's time with the Eagles seems like it's coming to a close, and having Tyson gives this team a replacement option before they potentially make a move. Roseman always wants to be prepared, and this could be the latest example.
