Eagles' Offseason Acquisition Won’t Make it to Week 1

As is often the case when a team wins the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles lost a ton of talent this offseason. The teams that wanted to close the gap between the Eagles and themselves chose to poach key free agents, resulting in a revamped Eagles roster.

While there have been significant changes in Philadelphia, those largely came on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles will mostly have the same starters from a season ago, but that doesn't mean that there won't be roster competition.

Once the OTAs begin next week, followed by the mandatory minicamp and the training camp, the Eagles top brass will have the difficult task of trimming the roster down to 53 players. Some tough decisions have to be made, including at the most important position.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson May Not Survive the Offseason in Philadelphia

The Eagles made changes to the quarterback room this offseason, shipping off Kenny Pickett for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and drafting Kyle McCord in the sixth round. With Tanner McKee set to begin the season as the QB2, the Eagles have to make a decision between McCord and Thompson-Robinson for a roster spot.

The odds are that Thompson-Robinson will be the odd man out. The former UCLA standout has intriguing tools, but was never able to put it together in Cleveland. In his five starts and 15 total games with the Browns, the talented young QB went 1-4, with one touchdown, 10 interceptions, and a 52.6% completion rate.

Unless he shows significant improvement in the OTAs, it's hard to imagine Thompson-Robinson beating out McCord for a spot. The Eagles rarely waste a draft pick and like to give a shot to their rookies. Taking a flyer on an unproven rookie with upside like McCord makes more sense than counting on Thompson-Robinson as your third-string quarterback.

Thompson-Robinson has a chance to revive his career after an underwhelming stint in Cleveland, but that likely won't happen in Philadelphia.
