The Philadelphia Eagles are 4-2 on the campaign and have a big-time game against the Minnesota Vikings up next on the schedule. The Eagles must bring their best effort in Week 7 to avoid dropping their third straight game, a thought that would have seemed crazy entering the 2025 season.
Fans are clamoring for the team to make some trades to improve the roster, and they have the perfect tight end staring them in the face. Earlier this week, the Tennessee Titans parted ways with head coach Brian Callahan on Oct. 13 and named Mike McCoy as the interim. Now, the changing of the guard in Nashville could ultimately pay dividends for Howie Roseman and Philadelphia's front office.
The Titans are in rebuild mode and will be looking for additional draft capital, which means they'll have to part ways with multiple players. One guy the Eagles should consider trading for is tight end Chig Okonkwo.
Eagles Should Strongly Consider Trading for Chig Okonkwo
Okonkwo is entering the final year of his rookie deal and could be a nice rental for Philadelphia, and would immediately become their TE2 in this offense. The 26-year-old has been extremely durable since entering the league, playing in every game between the 2022-2024 seasons. That trend has continued during the 2025 campaign as the tight end has played in all six games thus far this season.
The former Maryland Terrapins standout is an athletic pass catcher at his position, as evidenced by his 161 catches for 1,675 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his career. This season, the Titans have the 32nd-ranked total offense (232.3), but Okonkwo has still managed to reel in 23 catches for 218 receiving yards.
Considering that he's slated to hit free agency this spring, it wouldn't cost Philadelphia much to get the deal across the finish line. Dallas Goedert is the TE1 for the Birds, compiling 24 catches for 243 receiving yards and a team-high five receiving touchdowns in 2025. While it's great to have him on the field, he is an injury-prone player, so having quality depth behind him is a must.
Grant Calcaterra has been Philadelphia's primary backup in the tight end room, but he hasn't played well this season. He has just four catches for 40 receiving yards on the year. According to Pro Football Focus, Calcaterra has a 40.1 overall grade and a 33.4 run-blocking grade. He's also dealing with an oblique injury now that he suffered against the Broncos, which forced him to miss Week 6 against the Giants.
The addition of Okonkwo would give the Eagles a nice athletic pass catcher who would be an upgrade over Calcaterra and give them a quality option in case Goedert misses time again.
The Eagles should seriously consider making the move to improve a spot that has been shaky in 2025.
