What has made the Philadelphia Eagles such a consistent threat under head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts is the ability to never be content.
In many ways, it didn't make sense to pay top dollar for Saquon Barkley when the Eagles already had a star-studded offense. However, Philly wasn't content looking for ways to drastically improve, and this would help spark a Super Bowl run.
It isn't just star signings either; it has been valuable veteran additions and incredibly strong draft classes setting the franchise up for a possible dynasty. This approach has continued in the 2025 offseason with the Eagles actively searching for ways to improve.
Cap space is extremely limited, but there are still a handful of potential free agent signings that make sense. This includes adding to a loaded pass rush and bringing in veteran Matthew Judon as a rotational option.
Eagles Should Sign Struggling Pass Rusher Matthew Judon
Judon's free agency search has continued after an underwhelming season in Atlanta. He wasn't the pass-rush fix the Falcons were hoping to find, and his production and effort both took a clear step back. Before the 2024 season, though, anytime the veteran was on the field, double-digit sacks were the expectation.
Judon's time with New England established the veteran as one of the more consistent pass-rushing options in the league. While he was never a star or among the league's best dominating options, there was a level of reliable production. He's amassed 72.0 sacks, 276 solo tackles, and 19 broken-up passes in 131 career games.
All of this adds up to why the Eagles should sign the veteran, hoping to breathe life back into his career. Philly already has one of the best front four groups in the league. It is the biggest factor in why the team dominated in last year's Super Bowl run.
Quarterbacks had no time in the pockets, and rushers had little hope of getting far past the line of scrimmage. The Eagles' defense was dominating and left no reason to believe upgrades were needed. Again, this is where it is important to remember what has helped Philly reach the heights they did last season.
Signing Judon gives you a chance to find a surprise producer and make a great unit even better. For Judon, it is a chance to rebuild a bit of value ahead of hitting free agency again in the 2026 season. It is a win for both sides and should be a consideration as the preseason draws closer.
