The Philadelphia Eagles are in an interesting position offensively approaching this year's trade deadline. On one hand, they have all the weapons that led them to a Super Bowl last year. On the other hand, the offense is off to a sluggish start under new OC Kevin Patullo.
Bringing in a boost for the passing attack wouldn't be the worst decision, and the tight end position clearly opens that door. Dallas Goedert has been predictably solid while the rest of Philly's options have performed far below expectations. This opens the door, perhaps for a surprise blockbuster.
Mark Andrews Could Become Available on Trade Market
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler listed Baltimore Ravens star Mark Andrews among veteran players who could be on the move. A possible trade of the veteran pass catcher makes sense when you consider he is on the final year of his deal, and the Ravens have one lone win on the season. Quarterback Lamar Jackson missing time exposed just how much of a mess the roster is without its leader.
Jackson is expected to return in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, but if the Ravens lose this game, they could be sellers at the trade deadline anyway. Even with an easy schedule, falling to 1-6 would create some serious panic. And Andrews' expiring contract would make him an attractive option to sell.
While Andrews has taken a step back in production with only 174 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns this season, much of this is due to a quarterback change. Cooper Rush has struggled since taking over for Jackson, crushing the Ravens' passing production.
Andrews-Eagles Fit is Big Win For Both Sides
This leaves little question that Andrews' production would improve in the Philly offense. His 63.4 grade from Pro Football Focus is still an above-average mark among tight ends. He averaged more yards per target than Dallas Goedert in both 2023 and 2024. He doesn't have weapons like AJ Brown or DeVonta Smith to keep defenses from keying on him.
Player | Year | Yards | Targets | Yards/Target |
---|---|---|---|---|
Andrews | 2023 | 544 | 61 | 8.9 |
Goedert | 2023 | 592 | 83 | 7.1 |
Andrews | 2024 | 673 | 69 | 9.8 |
Goedert | 2024 | 496 | 52 | 9.1 |
Andrews | 2025 | 174 | 27 | 6.4 |
Goedert | 2025 | 261 | 26 | 7.3 |
Considering the state of the Eagles' tight end room compared to the rest of the offense, Andrews could be the final piece that pushes them over the top. There would be so much talent that even Kevin Patullo would run out of excuses. Just consider the PFF grades and rankings of the relevant tight ends in this conversation:
- Dallas Goedert: 67.6 (22nd)
- Mark Andrews: 63.4 (26th)
- Kylen Granson: 46.4 (72nd)
- Grant Calcaterra: 40.1 (76th)
With this in mind, the buzz and attention around the fit should only grow over the next week. It is the ultimate Howie Roseman move and makes sense for the Eagles as they attempt to add a needed boost as they look to defend their title. No question, Andrews should end his 2025 season wearing Eagles colors.
