After suffering their second consecutive loss this season, the Philadelphia Eagles are back at the Novacare Complex, preparing for their upcoming matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
The Eagles are looking to be much better in all three phases of the game after getting outplayed last week by the Giants.
Before hitting the practice field, Philadelphia made a quick change to its practice squad, bringing in another defensive back, which isn’t surprising based on the struggles of the CB2 spot. On Monday, the Eagles announced that they signed Tariq Castro-Fields to the taxi squad and released Eli Ricks.
Eagles Cut Ties with Eli Ricks Again, Bring in Tariq Castro-Fields
It’s not shocking to see the Eagles move on from Ricks again, who has been on and off the practice squad over the last several weeks. Ricks has yet to play in a game for the Eagles this season or get elevated from the practice squad.
That said, don’t be surprised if Philadelphia brings him back in a couple of weeks, as he knows the coaching staff and can step in if an injury happens on the 53-man roster or practice squad.
As for his replacement on the taxi squad, Castro-Fields was waived at the end of preseason with an injury designation.
The 26-year-old defender originally joined the Eagles last October after getting waived by the Carolina Panthers. He appeared in two regular-season games with the Panthers, where he had 17 special teams snaps.
That said, Castro-Fields didn’t appear in any games with the Eagles, as he sat on the practice squad.
After winning the Super Bowl in February, the Eagles signed the former Penn State defensive back to a futures contract, giving him a chance to make the 53-man roster or practice squad in training camp.
The 6-foot-1, 197-pound cornerback has 12 games of NFL experience on his resume, with most of that coming with the Washington Commanders (8) during the 2023 season.
The Eagles currently have four defensive backs on their practice squad to start Week 7. It will be interesting to see if any of them get called up for Sunday’s game, especially with Quinyon Mitchell dealing with a hamstring injury that he sustained in last week’s loss to the New York Giants.
