There's never an easy way to announce that you've released a player — especially when it's someone who won't generate much fanfare and doesn't deserve any big tributes. So the best answer is usually to just make it simple, informational, professional and to-the-point. NFL social media teams have typically mastered this process.

They have templates they use, and the messaging in any post announcing a cut is delivered quickly and simply. So the way the Philadelphia Eagles announced their latest cut made sense — it checked all of those boxes — but it also feels extra ruthless.

Philly cut practice squad defensive tackle Siaki Ika on Tuesday — the start of Kelly Green week. The team's social media graphics have been updated to match the theme, and so Ika's release was joined with a festive throwback Kelly Green "roster move" image.

There's obviously nothing personal directed at Ika here, and nothing inherently wrong with the post. There's just something that feels a little off about someone who is already barely hanging on to his NFL dream having his release announced with the new graphic.

Of course, Ika isn't going to be too worried about that. He'll be looking to try to find another NFL home, and it feels like he's got a pretty good shot of landing on someone else's practice squad.

Ika has only dressed in four games, playing 105 snaps (all for the Cleveland Browns), in his NFL career, but he was a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. That kind of draft pedigree typically catches the eye of NFL front offices and coaching staffs who believe they have a chance at unlocking the potential that earned a player such a strong draft spot to begin with.

Still, being cut by two teams in two seasons (so far) can't feel good, and can be taken as a sign that Ika may well be staring down the beginning of the end of his NFL career. That Kelly Green graphic might haunt him.
