The Philadelphia Eagles continue to add to their coaching staff before the start of the 2025 regular season.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports/CBS Sports, the Eagles are reportedly hiring UAB chief of staff/executive director of football operations Cole Peterson as an assistant to the head coach.

Peterson wrapped up his second season with UAB after joining the program in January 2023. Before landing at UAB, the 26-year-old spent the 2022 season at the University of Indiana with head coach Tom Allen.

With the Hoosiers, Peterson was the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Assistant to the head coach. He also had the opportunity to work at the FCS level at Youngstown State in 2021, serving as the Director of Football Operations.

Coincidentally, this is not the first time the Eagles have gone down to the collegiate ranks this offseason to make a coaching staff hire.

Late last month, the Eagles hired former Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler as their new QBs coach. Loeffler is taking over for Doug Nussmeier, who is the new offensive coordinator on Kellen Moore’s staff with the New Orleans Saints.

Loeffler spent six years at Bowling Green and has a ton of collegiate experience. Additionally, the Eagles also hired former University of Georgia assistant QBs coach Montgomery VanGorder to be an offensive assistant on Sirianni’s staff.

For a team like the Eagles, it’s good to see them going down to the college ranks to find talent. Philadelphia has seen several coaches leave over the years due to the success of the team.

Therefore, they must find new and creative ways to replenish the coaching staff, with guys from college who can bring a different perspective. As for Peterson’s position, he’ll be Sirianni’s right hand man, which will be a good learning experience for the former UAB personnel exec as he gets his first look at the NFL.
