Eagles Have Excellent Opportunity to Trade for Star Defender Ahead of Nov. 5 Deadline
The Philadelphia Eagles head into Week 8 with a 4-2 record. On Sunday, they are set to travel to play the Cincinnati Bengals with a chance to extend their win streak to three games.
While they have found a groove post the bye week, the Eagles could still use some upgrades to the defensive side of the ball. The trade deadline is on Nov. 5 so Philadelphia still has time to make some moves.
General Manager Howie Roseman isn't afraid to make trades and he has a chance to add a Pro Bowler defender who is available on the trade market. The Atheltic's Dianna Russini revealed that Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney is a player who will garner attention.
The Eagles should look to acquire Clowney to help bolster their pass rush. The South Carolina product is a player who is a solid run defender and owns the pass rush moves to get into the backfield. If Philadelphia wanted to acquire the 32-year-old, they could land him by sending a fourth-rounder to Carolina.
The Eagles have 19 team sacks in 2024 but the number skyrocketed after last week's performance. In Week 7 against the New York Giants, Philadelphia had eight team sacks. They could use more juice upfront and Clowney is a viable option.
Clowney has a $6 million cap hit in 2024, and the Eagles have $10 million available, so the money works. Getting a veteran defender who knows how to generate pressure could take the Eagles' defense to another gear.
He has 254 solo tackles, 53.5 sacks, and 15 forced fumbles in his career. Carolina is 1-6 on the season and will be sellers at the deadline. Philadelphia should call the Panthers and gauge the price on Clowney. There's still time to make a move and improve the team.
