The Philadelphia Eagles travel to play the Dallas Cowboys this weekend in an NFC East tilt that will be one of the games to watch during Week 12. These divisional games are always a battle, especially ones later in the season, as injuries pop up, forcing teams to use their depth to pick up crucial wins.
And that's the case with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed that Prescott is dealing with a hip injury. He said it's "nothing major." The Cowboys had a walkthrough on Wednesday, but Prescott will have a normal workload, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
While he's still on the practice field for Dallas, this is something to keep an eye on for the Eagles.
Eagles Should Keep an Eye on Dak Prescott’s Hip Injury
At this point in the season, most players are dealing with injuries, but any injury to the quarterback position is certainly interesting. Going into this game, Prescott is fifth in the NFL in passing yards (2,587), tied for second in passing touchdowns (21), and first in QBR (75.1). Just last week in the win over the Raiders, he threw for 268 passing yards and four touchdowns.
The Cowboys' passing attack, featuring CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson, is talented, for sure. With Prescott potentially taking the field at less than 100%, though, that's something that can work in Philadelphia's favor.
The Eagles' defense has been firing on all cylinders over the last two weeks, allowing nine or fewer points against the Packers and Lions. The addition of Jaelan Phillips seems to be the piece they were missing along the defensive front, which has helped this unit take its play to another level.
Given how explosive the Cowboys' offense can be, the Eagles need to be dialed in on defense. In the season opener, the Eagles defeated Dallas 24-20, in which Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Prescott. Obviously, there cannot be a repeat of that decision in Week 12, but this matchup is important for Philadelphia for reasons far beyond just divisional dominance and the bragging rights that come with it.
The rivalry between the two has always been heated, but another layer has been added. The Eagles are rolling into this game with an 8-2 record, while the Cowboys are 4-5-1. Following this contest against Philadelphia, the Cowboys have to play the Chiefs and Lions. That is no easy three-game stretch, no matter who you play for. With Prescott already having a hip injury to monitor, the Eagles have the chance to pick up another divisional win while making things more difficult for Dallas ahead of its brutal slate.
Guys like Phillips, Carter, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt will look to generate pressure and hit Prescott as much as possible on Sunday. It appears that he'll be suiting up based on Schottenheimer's comments, but he won't be 100%.
