The Philadelphia Eagles haven't had a quiet offseason. A lot of noise has surrounded the offense, which has seen Sean Mannion take over as the offensive coordinator. The chatter around receiver A.J. Brown hasn't slowed down either, and ESPN's Adam Schefter added more smoke to the fire.
On Monday, Schefter reported that Brown is likely to be traded to the New England Patriots post June 1st. While nothing is official, the wind has been blowing in this direction for a while now. It appears that Brown's time in Philadelphia will be coming to an end, which means the Eagles could use another playmaker. And if Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq is on the board at No. 23, the Eagles would be fools to pass on him.
Eagles Should Draft Kenyon Sadiq at No. 23 If He’s on the Board
The addition of Sadiq would kill two birds with one stone. He would give Philadelphia another athletic pass catcher to potentially ease the loss of Brown and give them a long-term option at tight end for Dallas Goedert.
Back in March, Goedert and Philadelphia agreed to terms on a one-year, $7 million extension. He's locked in for the 2026 season, but there's no guarantee that he will be there beyond that. Goedert has missed time in each of the last seven seasons, so having someone ready to step in would be huge. But even if Goedert is healthy, Sadiq could be a big slot for this team.
He's been the top-ranked tight end across draft boards. The Athletic's Dane Brugler is high on him, and in his draft guide, he wrote, "Sadiq has mismatch-creating potential in the NFL, because of his ability to out-quick and out-tough defenders as both a pass catcher and blocker. He projects as a versatile, Vernon Davis-like weapon and has his best football ahead of him."
Last season, Sadiq played a whopping 58.5 percent of his snaps out of the slot, and he was widely productive. He finished last season with 51 receptions for 560 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Sadiq also reeled in 13 passes of 20-plus yards, displaying his ability to make plays downfield.
The Idaho native is listed at 6'3" and 241 pounds, while running a 4.39 40-yard dash. That combination of size and speed is very appealing. Sadiq would give the Eagles a weapon for the present and the future.
He would also give them a weapon that could help offset the eventual loss of Brown. It's also worth mentioning that the Eagles brought Sadiq in for a top-30 visit, expressing their interest in the prospect. If he's on the clock at No. 23, Philadelphia should quickly turn in the card.
