The Philadelphia Eagles already live rent-free in the mind of the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles beat Green Bay twice last season, earning a 34-29 win in the season opener in Brazil and defeating them again in a 22-10 win in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
While the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl, the Packers became obsessed with stopping Philadelphia. The Packers formally requested for the NFL to ban the “Tush Push” the Eagles have mastered over the past three seasons, and it has now extended into free agency as their first big move may have been a direct result of what happened last season.
Packers Spend Big on Free Agent Lineman After Getting Decimated By Eagles
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers have agreed to terms with offensive guard Aaron Banks. The contract is worth $77 million over four years and has posted a pass block win rate of 89.9% and a run block win rate of 66.5%. He also dealt with numerous injuries during his four seasons with San Francisco, including knee and toe injuries to go along with a concussion.
Perhaps the NFL’s salary cap spike had something to do with it, but the cost is sticker shock to anyone out of Green Bay. Picking up an injury-prone guard who graded 33rd out of 77 qualifiers last season is a questionable move, but downright hilarious when you consider what the Eagles did to the Packers in 2024.
The Eagles' defensive line got after the Packers in Week 1, pressuring Jordan Love on 12 of his 36 dropbacks (33%). Things didn't get better for Love in the playoff matchup, as he was pressured on 15 of his 36 dropbacks (41.7%). The Packers also got held to 107 rushing yards in the Wild Card loss, including holding Josh Jacobs to 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
After watching the Eagles dominate the trenches, it would only make sense that the Packers would be desperate to add a guard. But there’s another level for a player that only had a $9.7 million market value projection from Spotrac.
With an organization that seems more focused on stopping the tush push in a hotel room than on a football field, the Eagles once again have trolled the Packers and could get the upper hand when they meet at Lambeau Field next season.
