The Philadelphia Eagles are defending champions and will be getting everyone's best punch. They are going to have a day of mandatory minicamp run on June 10.
They are going to part ways for a few weeks before training camp starts in late July. With OTAs finally in the rearview mirror, certain players have distanced themselves from others. In the meantime, some players are on the chopping block, and safety Lewis Cine is on that list.
Despite trading away C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Eagles' safety room appears to be in a good place. They still have Reed Blankenship starting, and the other spot is up for grabs. Andrew Mukuba was drafted in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft and is set to compete with Tristin McCollum and Sydney Brown.
Mukuba has already started standing out in practice and made McCollum expendable.
Lewis Cine Is on Thin Ice After OTAs
At the same time, Cine is someone who should look over the shoulder. Back in January, the Eagles signed Cine off the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.
He provided them with a nice depth piece, yet it didn't stop them from making additions to that room over the offseason. Cine's career got off to a rough start. He suffered a compound left leg fracture during the 2022 season on punt coverage. Cine managed to return in 2023 but managed only seven games.
The Georgia product ended up getting released by Minnesota in 2024. The 25-year-old was a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but he was never able to showcase what he can do. Cine has been with the Vikings and Bills with zero starts under his belt.
Philadelphia will likely start Mukuba and Blankenship at safety with McCollum and Brown as backups. There are only so many free spots available on this stacked roster, and Cine is definitely on thin ice following OTAs.
