The Philadelphia Eagles are quickly approaching final roster decisions with very few tough decisions to be made. Philly appears poised to defend its 2024 Super Bowl run with talent at every position group. This has created an incredibly difficult uphill battle for players on the bubble to win roster spots. To make Philadelphia's final roster, you needed an incredible camp and preseason if you were on the fringes of the roster.

With this in mind, it doesn't come as a surprise that safety Lewis Cine will find himself among the Eagles roster cuts. The former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick has struggled to find a landing spot since being selected in the 2022 draft, 32nd overall. The depth safety was then added to the Buffalo Bills' practice squad before signing with the Eagles in January.

Cine would win a Super Bowl in a depth role with the franchise. However, it seems the draft bust's time with the Eagles is quickly coming to an end. Superior performances and an injury have prevented the safety from maintaining a role. It is a rare example of a Georgia Bulldogs defender who simply isn't going to work out in the City of Brotherly Love.

Philadelphia Eagles Safety Lewis Cine Has Become an Obvious Roster Cut

One of the defining pieces of Philly's recent run of dominance has been a consistent influx of Georgia prospects. Aside from Cine, the Eagles have Nakobe Dean, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Azeez Ojulari, Nolan Smith, Smael Mondon, and Kelee Ringo. Philly has no shortage of former Bulldog defenders building its defensive core around the respected college program. However, it appears that even this incredible system cannot find a fit for Cine.

The veteran safety's injury is more than enough to open the door for more impressive prospects to win a role with Cine being a potential practice squad target. Having experience in the system does add value to bringing back the defender in a depth role. Practice squad pieces have often been utilized by the Eagles, and the door could open again for Cine.

In the meantime, though, is time to turn the page on a player that can safely be called a draft bust.

For Cine, the best-case scenario is finding a practice squad role and working his way back into an active reserve role. A frustrating setback for a player who has continually failed to live up to expectations.
