Miles Sanders was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent four seasons with the Birds. During his four seasons in Philly, Sanders played in 57 games and ran for 3,708 yards and 20 touchdowns while contributing in the receiving game with another 942 yards and three touchdowns through the air. His best season with the Eagles came in 2022, the last year of his contract, when he appeared in all 17 games and had 1,347 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns.
After the season, he signed a four-year, $25.4 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Since leaving the Eagles and the best offensive line in the league, Sanders has not been the same player. After two years of the contract, the Carolina Panthers opted to cut ties with the running back. During his time with the Panthers, Sanders appeared in 27 games and had a combined 637 rushing yards with three touchdowns and another 302 receiving yards with a lone touchdown through the air.
This offseason, the so-called America’s team, the division rival Dallas Cowboys, signed Sanders to a one-year contract to compete with fellow offseason free agency signing, former Denver Bronco Javonte Williams, for the starting running back job.
This move is perfect for the Dallas Cowboys. For a team that has not won the Super Bowl in 30 years (1995) and hasn’t made it past the divisional round of the playoffs since their last Super Bowl, signing a running back whose best days are far behind him is the perfect way for Jerry Jones’s team to stay in mediocrity.
Ever since Sanders left Philadelphia, Howie Roseman has replaced him with better running backs in D’Andre Swift (for one year) and poached the league’s best running back from the New York Giants in Saquon Barkley. Sanders is no Swift, let alone Barkley. Good luck to the Cowboys.
