The Philadelphia Eagles will enter Week 3 with an undefeated record, but make no mistake, there are plenty of issues facing this team that the coaching staff needs to address if they want to have any real chance at repeating as Super Bowl champions.
The play on the defensive side of the ball, particularly the secondary, has not been pretty thus far. Opposing wide receivers have been running free down the field, leaving opportunities for the Eagles to be beaten over the top on the deep ball. That is a problem in and of itself. When you throw in the fact that the team's prized offseason addition at cornerback, Adoree' Jackson, has been so ineffective that fans are already calling for him to be benched, you get a full understanding of why things are so not up to snuff.
Eagles CB Adoree' Jackson Running Out of Lives Before It’s Game Over
With a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on the horizon, slowing down DaVante Adams and Puka Nacua is going to be a tall task for the Eagles. For a player like Jackson, it could be his biggest opportunity to change the narrative surrounding him. If he cannot be depended upon to consistently cover one of the opposing team's top two receivers, he doesn't have any reason to be holding a spot on the roster.
There are quality, veteran options available on the free agent market that Philadelphia will have no excuse not to reach out to if Jackson is to provide another clunker this Sunday. Given the struggles Jackson has had thus far, there is no question that Stephon Gilmore or Asante Samuel Jr. would provide Dallas with the boost it needs on the back end of the defense.
The Eagles' front office needs to notice this, too. If the fans can see that Jackson cannot get the job done, Howie Roseman needs to go out and find someone who can. Even if that isn't Gilmore or Samuel Jr., there is no excuse for mediocrity, or worse, to be accepted in Philadelphia.
