Eagles Cut Surprise Playmaker Ahead of Week 8 Preparations
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles have made a notable roster move ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Eagles are releasing veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell.
Campbell appeared in four games with Philadelphia, where he had six catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. The veteran wide receiver was signed to the active roster before Philly’s Week 6 contest against the Cleveland Browns.
The 27-year-old pass-catcher was re-signed to the Eagles’ practice squad in mid-September after not making the final 53-man roster in August. Campbell initially didn’t want to return to Philadelphia’s practice squad.
But thanks to some convincing from head coach Nick Sirianni, Campbell returned. He played a notable role in Week 4 as the Eagles were without A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. In that game, Campbell had four receptions (four targets) for 17 yards and a score.
Campbell had initially signed a one-year deal in the offseason with the Eagles after spending the 2023 season with the New York Giants.
With Campbell released, the Eagles could add rookie wide receiver Ainias Smith to the 53-man roster. Smith recently had his 21-day practice window opened up on Oct. 7 after he began the season on the PUP list with an ankle injury.
The rookie receiver was on injured reserve during the preseason, which was reportedly going to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. If the Eagles decide to go that route, Smith could help out on special teams as a punt returner for the rest of the season.
