The Philadelphia Eagles have their bye this week and will get some much-needed rest. They've won two straight games and own a 6-2 record. While they are looking forward to the time off, a former Eagle landed inside the NFC.
Dan Wiederer of The Athletic reported that C.J. Gardner-Johnson is signing with the Chicago Bears. It's been a season of constant movement for the former Eagle, and he'll now be on his third team of the 2025 season.
And considering he landed with the Bears, he would potentially play against the Eagles this season.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson Signed with the Bears on Wednesday
The Bears and the Eagles link up in an NFC showdown on Black Friday in Week 13. The contest will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, and fans will certainly be pumped for that showdown. The addition of Gardner-Johnson came as a bit of a surprise.
He's been all over the place to start the season, as he has been released by both the Texans and Ravens already. It came as a shocker when the Eagles flipped him to the Houston Texans for Kenyon Green, but that was a trade that didn't work out for either side.
Now, Gardner-Johnson is joining a Bears secondary that's been depleted by injuries. They have both Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon on IR and are looking for some bodies in the secondary. He also has a history of playing under Chicago defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and head coach Ben Johnson.
The Bears were just desperately looking for reinforcements, and they landed on Gardner-Johnson. It'll be interesting to see how things unfold with Gardner-Johnson and Chicago. The last few months outside of Philadelphia have been a massive letdown for the Florida product.
As a member of the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson provided them with a trash talker who could provide them with a defender who takes the ball away. In 28 career games with Philadelphia, he had 126 total tackles, seven TFLs, and 12 interceptions.
While everything wasn't perfect there, he played much better as a member of Philadelphia than he did anywhere in 2025. There were some things behind the scenes that led to his release in Houston, which included his usage. Whether or not those problems arise in Chicago remains to be seen, but with how desperate the Bears are right now, there's a good chance that Gardner-Johnson will be on the field when Chicago travels to play the Eagles. And that'll only add more intrigue to the matchup.
