The Philadelphia Eagles saw their quarterbacks (Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett) get hurt in last week’s road loss to the Washington Commanders. Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter after picking up 13 rushing yards on a scramble.

Meanwhile, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a ribs injury. However, the former first-round pick didn’t leave the game. Pickett battled through the injury, completing 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

With Hurts and Pickett banged up and on the Week 17 injury report, the Eagles decided to bring back a familiar face to the practice facility this week. On Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported that the Eagles had Ian Book in for a visit.

The 26-year-old Book was with the Eagles for the 2023 preseason after he spent his rookie season with the New Orleans Saints in 2021. The Saints drafted Book in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Book started in one game as a rookie for the Saints, completing 12-of-20 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions against the Miami Dolphins. After his rookie season, the Saints waived the former Notre Dame quarterback, who was then picked up off waivers by the Eagles in Aug. 2022.

Book didn’t appear in any games that season for the Eagles, but got a chance to showcase his skills in two preseason games last summer. The former fourth-round pick completed 63.2 percent of passes for 91 yards.

The Eagles parted ways with Book on Aug. 29, 2023, but he would spend a brief moment on the New England Patriots practice squad last season before signing a futures deal with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year.

The former Eagle appeared in three preseason games with the Chiefs but was cut ahead of the 53-man roster deadline in August.

Philadelphia has an open spot on its practice squad after cutting tight end Kevin Foelsch earlier this week. Therefore, if the Eagles aren’t sure Hurts will play on Sunday, we could see a reunion between Book and Philadelphia.
