The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for their final preseason game against the New York Jets on Friday night. But they still have some questions to sort out before they open the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 4.
While the Eagles have addressed some of those concerns, trading for former Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie, they still need to figure out which quarterbacks will make the roster. Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee can breathe easy going into the finale but the battle for the third spot has been an underwhelming battle between Kyle McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Fortunately, the duo received some good news on Wednesday and it could be enough to save their job when they take the field against the Jets on Friday night.

Tanner McKee’s Injury Allows Eagles Backup QBs to Win Job vs. Jets
McKee’s health has been a hot topic since injuring his hand during an 11-on-11 drill on Monday afternoon. While McKee’s injury won’t require surgery, he missed Tuesday’s practice and was sidelined again when the Eagles took the field on Wednesday, according to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The Eagles won’t have to sweat out McKee’s availability against the Cowboys with Hurts healthy. But McKee’s absence opens up an opportunity in the short term for McCord and Thompson-Robinson to receive extra reps against the Jets.
Judging by their performance in Philadelphia’s second preseason game, they could use all the work they can handle. Thompson-Robinson started last Saturday’s contest against the Cleveland Browns and completed just 5-of-8 passes for 17 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. McCord didn’t fare much better, completing 8-of-16 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.
After leading the Eagles to just 88 yards of total offense in Saturday’s loss, speculation began to ramp up that Philadelphia could trade for another quarterback. But Thompson-Robinson and McCord could silence those doubters by putting together a solid performance against the Jets.
The good news is that McKee’s injury will give them the opportunity. It’s just on Thompson-Robinson and McCord to capitalize.
