The Philadelphia Eagles dealt with a lifetime's worth of headaches during the 2025 season, and the biggest pain was none other than offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. The replacement for departed offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who took the head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints, Patullo was the subject of many triggered, angry tweets, meager performances, and the ire of fans as the Eagles failed to defend the Super Bowl title.

But as it turns out, Patullo’s first season as offensive coordinator in Philadelphia will also be his last after head coach Nick Sirianni announced that he will make a change at the position on Tuesday afternoon, relieving Patullo of his duties.

“I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision, as he is a great coach who has my utmost respect,” Sirianni wrote in a statement. “He has been integral to this team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product, but behind the scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization. I have no doubt that he will continue to have a successful coaching career. Ultimately when we fall short of our goals that responsibility lies on my shoulders.”

It is worth noting that Sirianni did not say Patullo was fired, and there’s a chance he could remain on the staff in a different role in 2026. That being said, the important thing to fans is that he is no longer holding down the title of offensive coordinator. With a major change on the staff, other moves could be on the way, meaning that backup tight end Grant Calcaterra could be the next to have a difficult conversation in Sirianni’s office.

Calcaterra Is Next on Eagles’ Chopping Block After Patullo’s Demotion

The path to cutting Calcaterra has been brewing for a while. Calcaterra failed to record 10 catches for the third time in his four-year career, with nine grabs in 15 games this season. While the 27-year-old managed to catch a touchdown, it was just the second of his career and didn’t provide much value when on the field.

Sometimes, when a tight end doesn’t light up the box score, they can lean on their blocking ability to keep their job. But Calcaterra wasn’t good at that either. According to Pro Football Focus, 69.6 percent of Calcaterra’s snaps in 2025 were blocking snaps, and 86.3 percent were as a run blocker. Unfortunately, Calcaterra posted a 49.1 run-blocking grade on 241 snaps as an encore for a 48.6 grade in 2024.

The poor performance was felt in the totality of the Eagles’ running game. After ranking fifth in the NFL with 4.9 yards per carry last season, Philadelphia was tied for 20th with 4.2 yards per carry. While there were other factors, such as Patullo’s ineptitude as offensive coordinator, those numbers also speak volumes to Calcaterra’s performance. Simply put, this is unacceptable when you have Saquon Barkley in the backfield.

If Calcaterra can’t be a factor in the passing game and he isn’t effective as a blocker, there’s a good chance that a discussion with Sirianni may begin with “What is it exactly that you do here?” With no good answer after four seasons, Calcaterra isn’t likely to get a contract from the Eagles as he hits free agency next spring and could be the next to receive bad news from Sirianni.
