Eagles Announce Big Jalen Hurts Injury News to Begin Week 18 Prep
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles did not have star quarterback Jalen Hurts for last week’s 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys as Hurts was ruled out with a concussion. Hurts suffered the head injury in the first quarter of the Eagles’ Week 16 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
Without Hurts for last week’s game, the Eagles leaned on the quarterback duo of Kenny Pickett and second-year signal-caller Tanner McKee.
Pickett and McKee exceeded everyone’s expectations and played well against Dallas, tossing a combined three passing touchdowns in the blowout win. Pickett started the game but didn't finish it as he was banged up in the third quarter, leading to McKee's first NFL regular season appearance.
Heading into the regular season finale against the New York Giants, the Eagles do not have to play their starters as they’ve locked up the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
However, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni still provided an update on Hurts and his status for Week 18.
Eagles News: Jalen Hurts Still in Concussion Protocol Ahead of Week 18
According to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Sirianni said Hurts is still in the concussion protocol. He added that they want to get him healthy and ready for the playoffs.
While it’s not encouraging to hear Hurts is still in the protocol, it would’ve been unlikely that he would have played on Sunday against the Giants. Last season, the Eagles played their starters against New York in Week 18 and it backfired.
Star wide receiver A.J. Brown suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Hurts sustained a finger injury.
Therefore, the Eagles will use Sunday’s game against the Giants as an opportunity for other guys to get reps. And when the playoffs officially start, we should hopefully expect to see Hurts back at practice.
