On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles made huge decisions on a few former first-round picks ahead of the May 1 fifth-year option deadline. The Eagles reportedly exercised Jordan Davis’ fifth-year option, meaning he won’t hit free agency until 2027.

However, wide receiver Jahan Dotson and offensive lineman Kenyon Green had their fifth-year options declined, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. This means Dotson and Green will become unrestricted free agents at the end of the 2025 season.

Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports reported last week that the Eagles plan to decline Dotson’s fifth-year option.

On the other hand, most Eagles fans weren’t surprised to see the team decline Green’s option, whom Philadelphia acquired in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade last month. The Eagles will see if the former first-round pick can reach his potential and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The 24-year-old offensive lineman struggled mightily in his three years with the Texans. As a rookie in 2022, Green has a horrible 37.7 overall grade on Pro Football Focus. He also gave up 47 quarterback pressures (fourth-most among guards) and was penalized 12 times (second-most at the position).

The former Texans lineman missed his second season with a shoulder injury, but returned last year to the field. Green had another disappointing PFF grade (38.6), where he allowed 28 QB pressures and was penalized seven times in 12 games (nine games).

The former first-round pick suffered another shoulder injury in Week 9, which forced him to miss five games. Green appeared in the Texans’ last three games, playing 21 offensive snaps.

Nonetheless, the former Texans offensive lineman is getting a clean slate with the Eagles. If he plays well in training camp, preseason, and potentially regular season, then there’s a chance the Eagles give Green an extension.

However, if Green doesn’t pan out, the Eagles can quickly cut ties and won’t face a huge financial penalty.
