The Philadelphia Eagles made it a priority to add depth to their cornerback room during the bye week, acquiring Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander in separate trades ahead of the deadline.

No one exactly knows what role each defensive back will play in Vic Fangio’s scheme, but Eagles fans hope both guys will be on the field for Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers. On Sunday afternoon, we found out that Alexander’s Eagles debut will unsurprisingly have to wait another week.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Eagles ruled the veteran cornerback out for Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Alexander won’t travel with the team as he focuses on his knee and gets acclimated to the system.

Garafolo also points out that the Eagles did something similar with Brandon Graham, who did not play in Week 8 after returning from retirement.

Jaire Alexander’s Eagles Debut Will Have to Wait At Least 1 More Week

If you’re an NFL fan and have been following Alexander’s career as of late, this doesn’t come as a surprise. In his last two seasons with the Packers, the veteran cornerbacks’ availability was a rollercoaster ride, as he only played in 14 combined games due to injury.

Fast forward to this season with the Baltimore Ravens, and Alexander has only appeared in two games, serving as a healthy scratch in the other five contests. He missed a large part of training camp due to a knee injury.

When Alexander met with the media this week in Philadelphia, the veteran defender told them that this is the best he’s felt since his knee surgery and rehabbing in the offseason, and going to Baltimore, according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Eagles fans likely thought there was a chance that Alexander could play in Week 10 based on his comments and being spotted at practice working with DBs coach Christian Parker, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell.

However, it seems as if the Eagles are proceeding with caution when it comes to Alexander and making sure he’s up to speed when it comes to his debut. While fans would’ve loved to see him on the field, the Eagles will once again lean on whomever is starting at CB2 on Monday night.

Fans hope that, whether it's Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson, or Jakorian Bennett at CB2, they hope one of those guys plays well. If not, then we should expect to see some changes in Week 11, which could involve Alexander.
