In 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. Thankfully, the Eagles' defense has bounced back in 2024, thanks to new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Fangio improved the Eagles' pass-rush unit from a below-average group in 2023 to the top ten this season. Yet, the Eagles could always use another pass rusher to bolster their unit.

This offseason, veteran Khalil Mack will be a free agent. A recent Bleacher Report article suggests Mack should be a player the Eagles target.

Bleacher Report had this to say about Mack potentially going to the Eagles:

"Despite being 33 years old, Mack is still playing at a high level this year. Heading into this weekend, Pro Football Focus has credited him with 39 total pressures and the fourth-highest grade (91.7) at the position."

Eagles Rumors: Khalil Mack Could Be a Eagle in 2025

Over the past two seasons, Mack has proven to still be very effective, recording 111 tackles, 22 sacks, 26 tackles for loss, 35 QB hits, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Although Mack's sack numbers are impressive, it should be noted that he had six sacks in one game against the Raiders in 2023.

Even without that outlier game, Mack would still have 16 sacks in the last two seasons, which is still great for a player his age. Despite having 16 sacks combined in that time, Mack just has five this year.

Nonetheless, five sacks would still put Mack third among Eagles pass rushers this season.

Adding Mack can help make up for a few players the Eagles may lose this offseason. Both Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham's contracts are set to expire. While the Eagles will certainly look to bring Sweat back, there is no guarantee that he will return.

Graham, on the other hand, has stated he is contemplating retirement. If he does retire, that is a spot the Eagles would have no choice but to fill with a new player. There's no better fit to replace a potential Hall of Famer in Graham than another potential Hall of Famer in Mack.

Still, there's always a chance the Eagles decide to go younger at the defensive end, which could mean Mack is off the table. It will definitely be interesting to see what direction a potential Super Bowl participant will go in to address edge rusher this offseason.
