The Philadelphia Eagles raised some eyebrows when they traded for Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks. They had already signed Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, so it raised speculation about a potential A.J. Brown trade.

That might still be the case, since the Eagles must wait until June 2 to move him because of some salary cap implications. And if that's the case, Wicks will have an opportunity to flourish in the City of Brotherly Love.

Dontayvion Wicks Might Have a Breakout Year in Philadelphia

Even though Hollywood Brown is a proven veteran, he hasn't been much of a factor lately. He started six of 16 games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2025 and only hauled in 49 receptions on 74 targets for 587 yards and five touchdowns. Wicks, on the other hand, had to rotate with multiple competitors at the position, and he still had nearly as many receptions (30), yards (322), and scores (2) despite logging just 46 targets. Brown had 551 offensive snaps compared to 408 offensive snaps of Wicks last season.

Wicks is also more than familiar with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who was in Green Bay last season. As pointed out by X user Deniz Selman, 22.0 percent of Wicks' routes were hitch routes. Conversely, he logged 22.0 percent of the Packers' total hitch routes, so Mannion clearly knows how to use him at his best.

The Eagles will most likely turn to DeVonta Smith as their primary pass catcher if they trade Brown, but the WR2 spot will be up for grabs, and Wicks has the speed, physical tools, and talent to beat Hollywood Brown for it, not to mention the familiarity with Mannion.

For years, he was just the odd man out in one of the most crowded wide receiver corps in the league. He had to sit behind Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and even Matthew Golden and Tucker Kraft in Green Bay. That simply won't be the case in Philadelphia.

Wicks was entering the final year of his contract, so the Eagles gave him a one-year, $12.5 million contract extension. Clearly, they believe in him and his untapped potential, and Mannion must have a clear vision for how he'll use him in the passing game.

It's a big 'if,' since Brown is still an Eagle and might not be traded after all. But even if that's the case, he has a major opportunity to play a significant role in Nick Sirianni's team and finally prove what he's capable of.
