With NFL free agency scheduled to kick off next month, Philadelphia Eagles fans are wondering what general manager Howie Roseman has up his sleeve to get this team back to the Super Bowl after they failed to reach the big game in 2025.

One of the Eagles’ priorities this offseason will be to figure out the plan at tight end. Should they run it back with Dallas Goedert, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, after scoring a career-high 11 touchdowns? Or should the Eagles go after another tight end in free agency or in the draft?

On Monday, some Eagles fans started dreaming about the idea of David Njoku playing in Philly next season after he announced in a lengthy post on Instagram that he would not be returning to the Cleveland Browns in 2026.

As great as Njoku would look as a part of Jalen Hurts' arsenal, a potential stay in the City of Brotherly Love might be nothing more than fantasy.

David Njoku Signing Is an Eagles Pipe Dream Despite New Availability

The 29-year-old Njoku is joining a crowded free agent TE class that also features Goedert, Kyle Pitts, Isaiah Likely, Travis Kelce, etc. If the Eagles opt not to re-sign Goedert, Njoku seems like the perfect replacement, as he’s one of the better tight ends in the league when healthy.

The veteran tight end had a down 2025 season due to a knee injury that caused him to miss the final four games of the season. Njoku recorded 33 receptions (48 targets) for 293 yards and four TDs. He also averaged 24.4 receiving yards per game, second-fewest in his career.

It also didn’t help the veteran tight end that the Browns drafted his successor in Harold Fannin Jr., who emerged as a top weapon in Cleveland’s passing game. That said, Njoku would be fun to watch in this Eagles’ offense due to his athleticism, as he can line up in the slot, split out wide, and be used as an inline tight end.

However, Spotrac projects Njoku’s calculated market value as a two-year, $19.9 million contract, while Goedert’s is a one-year deal worth $6 million

But OverTheCap has a slightly different projection for Njoku, as they have his valuation at $5.1 million. Meanwhile, they have Goedert at $11.7 million despite him being older than Njoku.

Regardless of the market value projections, it would not be surprising to see Njoku paid more than Goedert, despite the injury concerns. He’s younger and more athletic. And that could work out in the Eagles’ favor as they could work on bringing back Goedert at a reasonable price and potentially pair him with a rookie.

This offseason, the Eagles can’t go on a spending frenzy, as they must weigh extensions for Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Not to mention, they have a few key free agents on defense in Nakobe Dean, Reed Blankenship, and Jaelan Phillips, who Philadelphia will try to bring back if the price is right.

The idea of Njoku would be fun on paper as they usher in a new offense in 2026, but the Eagles will need to play it smart this offseason, especially if they want to keep their Super Bowl window open.
