The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves as they prepare to defend their championship in 2025. The Eagles have multiple key players slated to hit free agency, and general manager Howie Roseman will be tasked with finding a way to retain them.

It move that came as a bit of a surprise, the Eagles released cornerback Darius Slay after five seasons with the team.

Shortly after the news, Slay's wife Jennifer posted on his X account. She tweeted, "Real tears."

Jennifer Slay Posts on X After Darius Gets Released by Eagles

The Slay family has built a great relationship with the city of Philadelphia ever since the 34-year-old was traded to the Eagles prior to the 2020 season.

Across 74 games with the Eagles, Slay finished with 272 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 56 pass breakups, and nine interceptions. During his time with the Eagles, he also played in two Super Bowls, finally securing a title in 2024.

He was going to have a $13.7 million cap hit in 2025. It's been reported by John Clark of NBC that the Eagles are open to bringing Slay back at a lower cap number.

Whether that happens remains to be seen but as of now, Philadelphia has to go with the thinking that he won't be on the team. The stellar play of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean also made the decision to release Slay more manageable.

They are the future at the position for the Eagles but having a veteran in Slay around went a long way. If they don't bring Slay back, it was a great five-year run for both sides. He provided them with a No. 1 CB who was a great leader off the field as well.

His family loved everything about being in Philly but everything good must come to an end eventually. And that could be the case with Slay in Philadelphia.
