Commanders Dealt Major Injury Blow Right Before Facing Eagles on TNF
By Jovan Alford
The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the Week 11 slate on Thursday against the Washington Commanders. This is a highly anticipated NFC East matchup as the Eagles and Commanders both have seven wins.
Both teams are 2-0 in the division, so this will be a good test to see which team is ready to take the division crown. The Eagles enter this short week relatively healthy, which is a good sign as they could have Pro Bowl left tackle Jordan Mailata returning from injury.
However, the Commanders might not have a few key players for Thursday’s game, including a Pro Bowl cornerback they acquired at the NFL trade deadline.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore will not play against the Eagles due to a hamstring injury. The veteran defensive back has been nursing this injury for a few weeks before getting traded to Washington.
The last time we saw Lattimore on the field was in Week 8 when the Saints traveled to the West Coast to play the Los Angeles Chargers.
With Lattimore out again, Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts and the offense will look to attack the Commanders’ pass defense (182.2 yards per game, fifth-fewest in the NFL). Benjamin St-Juste, Mike Sainristil, and Noah Igbinoghene are the Commanders’ top cornerbacks.
St-Juste doesn’t have an interception on the season but has held his own in pass coverage with a 62.9 completion percentage allowed on targets. However, the 27-year-old cornerback has a 113.9 pass rating allowed when targeted and gave up four receiving touchdowns.
After dropping 34 points against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10, it will be interesting to see what the Eagles do on Thursday against the Commanders’ defense sans Lattimore.
