The Philadelphia Eagles are 4-2 on the season, but there are some questions to be answered on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the secondary. Quinyon Mitchell is dealing with a hamstring injury, and it seems like Philadelphia is going back to Adoree' Jackson as one of its starting CBs.

The Eagles' secondary needs some help right now, which has led to fans asking for C.J. Gardner-Johnson to return to the city of Brotherly Love. He was seen liking a tweet and following a fan who clamored for him to re-sign with the Eagles. This clearly shows there is interest on his side to return and things got easier on the front on Tuesday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Gardner-Johnson was released from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad. His agent and the Ravens “an amicable mutual decision,” per Conner, and they are looking for an easy pathway to playing time. And with the problems in the Eagles' secondary, they have a chance to bring him back.

Eagles Could Sign CJ Gardner-Johnson Now That He’s a Free Agent

Both Andrew Mubuka and Reed Blankenship have had their struggles on the backend. Blakenship has a 47.4 overall grade (120th among 138 graded safeties) and a 48.7 coverage grade (117th among 138 graded safeties) on Pro Football Focus. Meanwhile, the rookie Mubuka is even worse in coverage. The Texas product owns a 55.6 overall grade (104th among 140 graded safeties) and a 45.2 coverage grade (125th among 140 graded safeties).

Both guys have had their fair share of problems and have even made mistakes as a tackler in open space. As for Gardner-Johnson, it hasn't been a good year for him as well. There was some behind-the-scenes drama that led to his release by the Houston Texans. He then joined the Ravens' practice squad but never got elevated to the active roster.

In 28 games with the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson compiled 126 total tackles, 20 pass breakups, and 12 interceptions. The Florida product was an enforcer on the backend who could always create some turnovers. He did have some lapses in coverage, but with the shaky corner play from the CB2 spot and safety room, Philadelphia should consider bringing him back.

It would also take a low-cost deal to bring him in. They could even take a trial run by inking him to the practice squad. He knows the Eagles' scheme, players, and coaches, which makes his ability to help right away even stronger.
