With rookie minicamps underway and OTAs on the horizon, former Philadelphia Eagles veteran quarterback Carson Wentz is still sitting in free agency. The 32-year-old quarterback has seen multiple veteran QBs sign in free agency and even get a tryout/invite to rookie minicamp.

In fact, the Denver Broncos are reportedly hosting veteran quarterback Desmond Ridder for a tryout at their rookie minicamp, per Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post.

Ridder doesn’t have the same amount of NFL experience under his belt that Wentz does. But he is seven years younger than Wentz, which likely warrants a team bringing him in for a tryout to see if he can compete on the 53-man roster this summer.

This latest news is a perfect indicator of where the free-agent QB market is at. Wentz, who is 32 years old, likely doesn’t want to go through the tryout/invite stage, given his resume and being a backup in Kansas City last year.

The Chiefs brought in the former Eagle last offseason to be the backup behind superstar Patrick Mahomes. Wentz didn’t play often in 2024 until the regular season finale against the Broncos. It was the perfect opportunity for the veteran signal caller to showcase his skills for other teams in hopes of landing a new opportunity this offseason.

However, Wentz’s lone start did not go well in Week 18. He completed a mediocre 58.8 percent of his passes for 98 yards. Wentz didn’t throw a single touchdown as the Chiefs got hammered 38-0.

The veteran quarterback didn’t have any turnovers, but was sacked four times. He looked like a shell of himself. Now he sits and waits for that next opportunity after the Chiefs signed another former Eagles QB (Gardner Minshew II) to be Mahomes’ new backup.

With how things have gone for Wentz this offseason, he might be waiting a long time to sign with a new team. Before he latched on with the Chiefs, Wentz didn’t sign with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023 until November of that season.

Hopefully, the former Eagles QB won’t have to wait that long again, especially with training camp slowly approaching in the summer.
