The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line has dealt with consistent injuries throughout the 2025 season. Included in this frustrating list have been rookies Myles Hinton, Willie Lampkin, and Cameron Williams. It seems that Williams is nearing a return with NBCS Philly's Dave Zangaro reporting that the Eagles have opened the 21-day practice window for rookie tackle Cameron Williams. Of course, optimism is tempered by the fact that this is exactly what happened to Hinton and Lampkin before both rookies were eventually shut down for the season.

While opening Williams' practice window is promising, there's reason to worry that he'll follow the same path as the rookies before him, even with the Eagles needing more depth on the line. Looking at the current roster, it seems obvious that Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson will be the starting tackles by the end of the season if Johnson is able to return as expected. This leaves Fred Johnson as the swing tackle and Brett Toth and Matt Pryor serving as interior depth.

Williams wouldn't be an upgrade over any of those guys, so finding a 53-man roster spot could be tricky.

Considering the desperate position that Philadelphia is in currently, the Eagles have every reason to be wary of making any waves. While you want to seek out every opportunity to improve, there is very little that a rookie depth piece is likely to contribute in the final four games of the season. It is far safer for Philly to stick with the problems it understands rather than risking bringing in the unknown.

It's too early to rule out the idea of Williams returning, and the Eagles could always surprise us, but the most likely path seems to be that this is a dress rehearsal for next year. Opening Williams' practice window means the Eagles can at least get him on the field for three weeks of practice reps, which would be the most he has played since hte regular season began.

If the Philly offensive line can get healthy and find a way to play at a more consistent level, there won't be anyone questioning this decision making. However, if the offensive struggles persist and the season continues to go sideways, the handling of the Philly rookie offensive linemen will be one of many questions an already irate fan base will be asking.
