The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of their worst offensive season in the Nick Sirianni era. Through the first half of the season, the Eagles rank 10th in points and 23rd in yards per game under offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. The last time the Eagles' offense looked this anemic, Doug Pederson was the head coach and Philly went 4-11-1 for the 2020 season.

Things are obviously not as dire, and the Eagles still have a chance to repeat as the Super Bowl champions. At the same time, the offense obviously needs to take a step forward. If it doesn't, the Eagles may now have a new contender to take over Patullo's job following the latest news stemming from a divisional foe.

The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday amid their 2-8 start, according to NFL insider Justin Schultz. While it's difficult to argue that Daboll has done a good job or deserves to keep his seat, head coaching and offensive coordinating are two different jobs. He might not be suited for a lead job, but Daboll has proven himself as an offensive coordinator in this league, and he should at least be considered by the Eagles if the Kevin Patullo experiment doesn't work out.

Eagles Should Monitor Brian Daboll After Giants Firing

Before taking the Giants' job in 2022, Daboll was an OC with the Bills for four years. Buffalo was a top-five offensive unit in back-to-back seasons in 2020 and 2021, averaging at least 28.4 PPG each year.

What makes Daboll an especially intriguing option for Philly, however, is his position before the Bills. The 50-year-old coach worked under Nick Saban in Alabama as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2017 season. There, he coached Jalen Hurts and helped lead the team to a CFP national championship. Before Hurts' benching, the star quarterback had a highly productive campaign under Daboll.

Since then, Daboll has had nothing but praise for the Eagles' QB, even when he was with the Giants head coach, highlighting on numerous occasions how much Hurts means to him. Surely, a reunion would be welcomed by both sides.

Despite the disappointing Giants tenure, Daboll should still have some suitors on the open market. He will not get head coaching interest and will almost certainly return to an OC role. His relationship with Hurts certainly puts him in the running, and if the star signal-caller were to actually want his former head coach to have the job, the Eagles would have to consider it.

The ideal scenario, however, would be that the Eagles figure things out and the offense starts to click, leading to Patullo keeping his job. Otherwise, the speculations about potential replacements will begin, and Daboll will almost certainly be on that list.
