The Philadelphia Eagles have their bye week, giving them the perfect time to make an addition to the defense. The Eagles made their first move on Wednesday when they traded for cornerback Michael Carter II.
That move likely opens the door for Cooper DeJean to move out to the boundary spot as the Eagles are gearing up for the second-half push. But there's another move the Eagles made that took their defense to another level this season.
Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo has been a standout defender along the interior, making it easy for fans to forget about Milton Williams, who left in free agency to sign with the New England Patriots. When Williams walked, it was a question mark on who would step up to replace him, and Ojomo has been that defender.
Moro Ojomo Has Played Lights Out for Eagles Thus Far
In a tweet posted by Thomas R. Petersen, Ojomo has recorded four sacks and six QB hits on 208 rushes. Meanwhile, Williams has five sacks and 10 QB hits on 418 pass rush reps.
In addition, Ojomo has compiled 23 hurries and 28 total pressures. According to Pro Football Focus, he has a 79.5 overall grade (9th among 128 graded defensive linemen), 73.8 pass-rush grade (21st among 128 graded defensive linemen), and a 71.6 run-defense grade (16th among 128 graded defensive linemen).
Meanwhile, Williams has posted a 64.3 overall grade (42nd among 128 graded defensive linemen), 72.2 pass-rush grade (26th among 128 graded defensive linemen), and a 51.1 run-defense grade (84th among 128 graded defensive linemen). He also has 25 total pressures and 18 hurries, which are good numbers but still less than Omojo while playing in more snaps.
Considering that Williams is set to make $29 million in 2026, $30 million in 2027, and $31 million in 2028 per Spotrac, the Eagles are getting better production for far less. Philadelphia has Omojo signed through the 2026 season at just $1.058 million, and that's a bargain.
The Eagles constantly find ways to get production from their defensive front, and that goes to the scouting and development they can produce. Omojo is the latest example of that, and that has to give the fanbase a lot of hope for the remainder of the season.
Everyone knows what Jalen Carter brings to the defensive line, so having another impactful force is huge. And it feels a lot better to have a defender play at this level for this price tag as the Eagles head into the second half of the year.
