Beloved Eagles Starter Must Be Cut After Week 14 Disaster
By Joe Summers
Eagles kicker Jake Elliot has spent his entire eight-year career with Philadelphia, yet his struggles have proven to be a potential barrier to the team's ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl.
After missing another field goal, Elliot lost the trust of his coaching staff in a narrow victory over the Panthers. This performance was mediocre at best across the board, and there's no chance the Eagles can compete with the Lions unless they make sweeping changes.
Elliot has now missed all five of his field goals of 50+ yards. If the Eagles intend to make the Super Bowl, he cannot continue as the kicker in critical moments.
Eagles Must Bench K Jake Elliot After Another Meltdown
He's enjoyed an illustrious career and is still just 29 years old, though it's hard to ignore Elliot's struggles so far this season.
Elliot has made just 18 of his 24 field goals with five misses coming from beyond 50 yards. Assuming Philadelphia is in a tight playoff game, which is a safe bet, they should have no faith in the kicker's ability to deliver in a critical moment.
While Elliot has made numerous huge kicks during his career, it's time for the Eagles to find a new option. Even in the win over the Panthers, Sirianni made decisions that showcased his lack of faith in the struggling special teamer.
It's never fun to see a beloved player go through a disastrous season, but Elliot is the weak link for this roster. Provided the Eagles are involved in competitive playoff games, they need to search for a new solution.
Elliot is a storied Eagle with a great career. However, it's beyond time to find a new kicker before disaster strikes yet again.
