There are plenty of reasons that it's hard to repeat as a Super Bowl champion, and for as much as we hate to admit it, plenty of those reasons apply to the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that FanDuel Sportsbook still has them as the favorites to win the Super Bowl next year, too.
The most relevant hurdle the Eagles face right now is how hard it can be to retain top talent. It's expensive to keep good players around, and teams around the leauge are always looking to poach players from the best franchises.
That makes it surprising that there are still seven former Eagles who hit free agency in March who still haven't signed anywhere.
Former Eagles Who Are Still Free Agents in April
The following seven Eagles hit free agency in March and still haven't signed anywhere as of April 4th. (Note that I'm not bothering to include Brandon Graham in this list, whose contract has expired but who absolutely has a job with the Eagles if he wants it.)
- James Bradberry
- C.J. Uzomah
- Rick Lovato
- Le'Raven Clark
- Nick Gates
- Jack Driscoll
- Britain Covey
It's not exactly a who's-who of important contributors from the Super Bowl roster, but it's also not an insignificant group. These seven players were on the field for a combined 665 snaps in the regular season. The only one to play in the Super Bowl, however, was starting long snapper Rick Lovato.
Being predominantly depth players, teams are likely going to wait for the NFL Draft to play out before signing anyone on this list — plugging remaining gaps on the roster. By the time training camp rolls around they should all be getting a shot somewhere, and don't be surprised if that "somewhere" is Philadelphia for at least a couple.
