5. Garrett Stubbs

With starting catcher J.T. Realmuto getting older, the Phillies need to consider upgrading the backup catcher spot this offseason.

The 31-year-old Stubbs has been a fan favorite over the last few years, but he doesn’t provide much offense, which is less than ideal. In his three-year stint with the Phils, the veteran catcher is hitting .222 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs.

This season with the organization, Stubbs slugged a pedestrian .207 with a home run and 11 RBIs (54 games). As with Hays, the left-handed hitting Stubbs is arbitration-eligible this winter.

However, if the Phillies are serious about upgrading the position, they should see who is available in free agency or allow Rafael Marchan to take over. Marchan played well in his short stint with the big-league club this season, hitting .294 with three home runs and six RBI.
