Another surprise player who could be on the chopping block now that the Eagles have moved on from Darius Slay is another former big-money acquisition -- pass rusher Bryce Huff.

The Eagles made a bold move to go after Huff in 2024 NFL free agency and pluck him away from the New York Jets, and I don't think anyone blamed them for doing so. Huff had become one of the most effective weapons as a pass rusher on a per-snap basis of anyone in the NFL, racking up 10 sacks in 2023 on just 480 total defensive snaps.

He had put together an impressive body of work despite not getting a ton of snaps with the Jets, and the Eagles were banking on him providing at least that same level of per-snap efficiency after signing a three-year deal worth $51.1 million in total money and $34 million guaranteed at signing.

What they ended up getting? In 12 games and under 300 snaps, Huff had 2.5 sacks, eight pressures, and four quarterback hits.

It's not exactly what the Eagles paid for.

With the emergence of guys like Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt this past year -- young players the Eagles have drafted recently -- it could be that Howie Roseman decides to cut bait with Huff after just one season.

It would require Huff basically agreeing to re-work his deal to facilitate a trade in order for this to happen, and the Eagles could try and get the most out of him this coming season, but we also know this team is always looking to upgrade off the edge either in free agency or the NFL Draft and they're not going to let Huff get in the way of young players who deserve snaps.

If there's a trade out there to be made, Roseman will find it.
