The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Champions, and along with that prestigious distinction comes the (nice) problem of having a lot of good players who deserve to get paid a lot of money. It's a good problem for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to navigate, but it's an interesting issue nonetheless.
The Eagles have already made a rather substantial move by cutting former starting cornerback Darius Slay, designating him as a post-June 1 cut. They save just over $4 million by cutting him, but that cap space can't be used until the Summer. So what are the Eagles trying to do here?
We could see a number of other Eagles players on the chopping block in the near future if Darius Slay isn't off limits. Even though Slay is 34 this year, he's still a high-quality player and beloved by Vic Fangio. Which other Eagles players could be on the chopping block shortly?
1. James Bradberry, CB
James Bradberry was once a fantastic acquisition for the Philadelphia Eagles who helped them get to the Super Bowl just a couple of years ago. He had a horrendous 2023 season for the team and there has basically been talk about him possibly getting cut ever since.
He didn't play in the 2024 season after suffering an Achilles injury in training camp and while the Eagles have quite a bit committed to him on the salary cap over the next handful of years, he could be the next veteran cap casualty for this team. The Eagles could save $2.1 million by designating Bradberry as a post-June 1 cut.
Those savings come in the form of his base salary for 2025 which is fully guaranteed as of March 13, the second day of the new league year.
Having that deadline in place sort of makes it easy for the Eagles to make the choice to move on from Bradberry here in the very near future.
