The 2025 NFL Draft is finally in the rearview mirror and teams have shifted their attention to the UDFA market. They are sifting through those players to see who can be brought in and fight for a chance to make the roster.
The NFL Draft is a time when teams look for younger players to bolster their teams but it can also be bad news for other veterans on the team. There are several former Eagles who could have lost their jobs after the draft and we'll discuss them in this piece.
1. Kenny Pickett, QB, Cleveland Browns
Pickett was traded to the Browns in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick. He said he went there to be the starter, but that dream may officially be long gone.
The Browns signed Joe Flacco to a one-year deal, and they didn't stop there. In the draft, they took both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
That QB room is now packed and Pickett will be someone who falls down the depth chart as time goes on. He isn't as talented as either Gabriel or Sanders. Both guys come into the league with a ton of hope and excitement. That same sentiment can't be said about Pickett, who has failed to throw for more than seven passing touchdowns in any season.
There's a reason Cleveland took not one but TWO quarterbacks in the draft. They didn't love the current guys on the roster, and that is bad vibes for Pickett.
2. Miles Sanders, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Miles Sanders joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year, $1.337 million deal. The Cowboys were penny-pinching in terms of adding talent to the roster in free agency. They also signed Javonte Williams to a one-year deal to bolster their backfield. They let Rico Dowdle walk in free agency and needed to revamp that position group.
Instead of standing pat, Dallas continued to look at improvements in that room. In the fifth round, they took Texas RB Jaydon Blue. He's an explosive playmaker as a runner and pass catcher. This past season with the Longhorns, he had 730 rushing yards, 368 receiving yards, and 14 total touchdowns.
Blue brings more speed to the backfield to pair with Williams' power. That seems like the duo the Cowboys will run with in 2025, which could push Sanders down the depth chart. Sanders has finished with fewer than 402 rushing yards in consecutive seasons, and the Cowboys would be wise to roll with someone who has higher upside.
