The Philadelphia Phillies started the 2025 regular season strong, winning their first three series, which included a three-game sweep over the Colorado Rockies and taking two out of three from the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, after winning five out of their first six games at home, the Phillies lost three out of their first four games on their six-game road trip.
Philadelphia struggled against the Atlanta Braves and lost the series opener to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. The Phillies bounced back with a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon against the Cardinals. However, those losses heightened some concerns the fanbase has with certain players on the roster.
Below, we’ll discuss a few players who are struggling at the plate or on the mound through the first two weeks of the season, which could jeopardize their roster spot down the road.
1. Alec Bohm
The veteran third baseman has struggled noticeably at the plate recently, which has led to Phils manager Rob Thomson moving Bohm down the lineup to provide some protection behind Bryce Harper in the three spot.
Bohm started the season as the Phillies’ cleanup hitter (No. 4 spot) but was shifted down to the bottom of the order (seventh and eighth spots). On the season, the 28-year-old third baseman is slashing .158/.172/.175 with a double, three RBI, and a walk. He’s also struck out 13 times in 58 plate appearances.

The vet has been a disaster in the fourth spot, hitting .059 with an RBI and five strikeouts in 17 plate appearances.
Bohm’s early season performance is a far cry from what the veteran did at the plate in Spring Training (.370/.412/.630 with three doubles, three home runs, and eight RBI). Phillies fans were hoping the veteran infielder turned the corner after how the second half of the regular season and postseason played out.
If you don’t remember, Bohm hit .251 with four home runs and 27 RBI in the second half after he slugged .295 with 11 home runs and 70 RBI in the first half. In the playoffs, Bohm hit .077 with a walk (1-13 in 14 plate appearances).
Nonetheless, if things don’t start turning around for Bohm, Phillies fans' concerns will only get louder, and they will press for the team to potentially move him at the trade deadline.
