Even though we are in the middle of the 2024 regular season, it’s never too early to look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2025 plans. The Eagles started the season with a 2-2 record through the first four games.

However, they rebounded in October, going a perfect 3-0 with wins over the Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants, and Cincinnati Bengals.

As things currently stand, most of the Eagles’ core on offense and defense is locked in heading into next offseason. However, several players could play elsewhere due to free agency or poor play.

Nonetheless, Eagles fans aren’t ready to look at next year’s plans as the team has turned their season around. But we’ll quickly highlight which players aren’t doing their jobs and could be playing themselves out of Philadelphia.

1. Avonte Maddox

The veteran defensive back has seen his playing time decrease over the last few weeks since the Eagles returned from their Week 5 bye. Maddox was starting at nickel, alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Darius Slay on the boundary.

However, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio decided to start rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean over Maddox, which has paid huge dividends for the Eagles’ secondary lately.

Maddox played eight defensive snaps (second-lowest total) in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. In the limited time we saw the field, the veteran defensive back struggled to keep up with Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki.

The veteran cornerback has recorded 14 combined tackles and four pass deflections in seven games this season. Even though Maddox has seen his playing time decrease over the last few weeks, his advanced stats say he’s been okay in pass coverage.

The 28-year-old defender possesses a 47.4 completion percentage, a 78.2 pass rating allowed when targeted, and has only given up one touchdown.

After releasing Maddox in March to create $1.95 million in cap space, the Eagles re-signed him to a one-year deal in April. That said, with the trajectory DeJean is on, it’s a possibility Maddox might not be in Philadelphia next season.
