3 Eagles Fans Will Be Happy to See Leave After the Super Bowl
2. Avonte Maddox, CB
Cornerback Avonte Maddox was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has spent the past seven years with the Birds.
During his tenure, Maddox has played 81 games (41 career starts). He's compiled 270 total tackles, 36 pass breakups, eight forced fumbles, and four interceptions. Despite being a stable presence in the Eagles' secondary, the days of him being a starter are over.
This season, Maddox started just three games. Throughout the campaign, he logged 20 total tackles and five pass breakups. When he was on the field, Maddox wasn't productive. According to PFF, Maddox had a 59.8 overall grade (79th among 118 eligible corners) and a 60.4 coverage (76th among 116 eligible corners).
Maddox signed a one-year deal before the season began but the need for him on the roster has faded. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean has taken over in the slot and has produced immediately.
Across 16 games (nine starts), DeJean has racked up 51 tackles, three TFLs, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He's been one of the best at his position per PFF. The Iowa product had an 82 defensive grade (3rd among 118 eligible corners), 79 coverage grade (6th among 118 eligible corners), and a 90.4 run defense grade (2nd among 105 eligible corners).
He's already emerged as a dynamic defender in the secondary who is active in the run game. The need for Maddox is no longer there and fans wouldn't mind if he was gone.
