3 Studs (and 2 Duds) from Eagles’ Narrow Week 4 Win Over Commanders
By Tyler Maher
Dud: Kenneth Gainwell
Gainwell is the clear RB2 in Philly’s backfield now behind D’Andre Swift, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be earning RB1 duties anytime soon following his quiet performance in Week 4.
The Eagles’ offense was clicking on Sunday, but Gainwell wasn’t really a part of it. He received just 4 totes compared to 14 for Swift and didn’t do much with them, managing just 14 rushing yards (3.5 yards per carry).
That’d be fine if he was more active in the passing game, but he wasn’t. Gainwell had just 2 catches for 7 yards, averaging only 3.5 yards there as well.
At the end of the day, 6 touches for 21 yards is not what you want from your RB2. Gainwell probably isn’t happy about backing up Swift, but he needs to make more of an impact when he is on the field. He still doesn’t have a touchdown yet and just isn’t doing much when he does get the ball, which is why we’ve had to look elsewhere for offense.
Rashaad Penny was inactive again on Sunday, but it might be time to think about giving him some of Gainwell’s carries to see if he can provide more punch than what Gainwell has given us so far. At this point, we really don’t have much to lose.
