3. Kelly Oubre Jr.

The 76ers needed to add some offensive depth this offseason and attempted to do so by inking Kelly Oubre Jr. to a one-year contract.

On paper, Oubre seems like a solid fit. We needed depth scoring on the wing, so we added a veteran who just averaged a career-high 20.3 points across 48 games with the Charlotte Hornets.

On the flip side, Oubre’s most recent performance wasn’t all that impressive.

First of all, he isn’t exactly the shining example of efficiency. His 43.1% field-goal and 31.9% three-point percentages were both below the league averages of 47.5% and 36.1%, respectively. He won’t see as much volume as he saw with the Hornets, either, meaning his point totals will drop if he can’t figure out how to be more efficient with the ball.

Secondly, Oubre is far from a good defender. His minus-7.7 on-court plus/minus per 100 possessions was, by far, the worst mark as a pro, coming in well below his career average of minus-2.9.

Lastly, Oubre is coming off his most injury-plagued season to date, missing a career-high 36 games due to hand and shoulder injuries. His final game played was on March 23, leaving time to tell if he’s able to fully heal and bounce back from those injuries.

Could Oubre wind up being a great fit? Sure, but there’s also a good chance that he doesn’t come close to matching last year’s heights, and 76ers fans should be ready for that scenario.
