Stud: Lane Johnson

Lane Johnson’s big night started from the first play of the game — D’Andre Swift took the handoff to run outside zone to the right, and Johnson got some massive push at the point of attack.

After that, I don’t think he was mentioned once on the broadcast, and that’s usually a good sign for your right tackle.

The Buccaneers got almost no pressure on Jalen Hurts when they weren’t blitzing. The occasional time Hurts decided ran out of the pocket he usually had time to throw. It’s just that when Hurts has nothing open downfield his best move is usually to try making something happen with a scramble drill — sometimes creating the impression of pressure where there wasn’t any.

When Hurts did get pressured it either came straight up the middle or from failed blitz pickups by the running backs. Johnson held up beautifully in 1-on-1 edge rushes, and also made some nice adjustments and plays to pick up blitzes from the outside.

It was another big game for D’Andre Swift, and while he certainly looked good himself, you have to give big credit to this offensive line. And as usual, Johnson was a major part of that too. He got great push when he was asked to clear out space (like in that first run of the night), and he sealed beautifully when runs were going the other way.

It was hard to pick out a single bad rep for Johnson all night, and that kind of rock-solid performance is what we’ve come to know and love from the 11th-year Eagle and two-time All-Pro.
