3 Eagles With the Most to Prove in Week 3
By Tyler Maher
3. Mario Goodrich
After spending much of last year on Philadelphia’s practice squad and sitting out Week 1, Mario Goodrich finally made his NFL debut in Week 2.
The 23-year-old cornerback looked solid against Minnesota’s potent passing attack, contributing 4 tackles (3 solo, 1 assisted). He did not make any highlight-reel plays, however, so he still has a lot to prove if he wants to earn regular playing time this season.
His next test will come in primetime against a surprisingly dangerous Bucs passing game. Baker Mayfield has looked excellent with 490 passing yards and 3 TDs so far, relying heavily on his wide receiver duo of Mike Evans (237 receiving yards) and Chris Godwin (109 receiving yards).
If Goodrich can shut one of them down and slow down Tampa’s passing game, that will go a long way toward proving he can carry the torch as nickel cornerback after Avonte Maddox’s injury. If he gets torched, however, it’s likely back to the practice squad for him
The stakes are high for Goodrich in Week 3, so hopefully he delivers.
