3. We Want It More Than Them
A lot of players on this Braves roster already won the World Series. They just did it two years ago, after all, and the roster has remained relatively intact since then. They might also be growing complacent after dominating the regular season and playing so many meaningless games down the stretch, plus they could get rusty during their first-round bye.
The Phillies, on the other hand, are hungrier. We came so close last year, only to come up just short in the World Series. The front office has done everything it could to put us over the top, from signing Turner in the offseason to adding Lorenzen at the trade deadline. We’ve scratched and clawed all season just to make the playoffs, but now we’re firing on all cylinders and right where we want to be.
How many times have we seen good teams come back and finish the job after falling short the year before? The 2022 Astros, 2015 Royals and 2004 Red Sox all did it, to name a few.
We’re battle-tested now, and a lot of our players gained valuable postseason experience last year. We’re also a better team than we were last year when we won the pennant, so our players should be more confident going into October.
